The Japanese Attack in Pearl Habor
Pearl Harbor is located in the island of Oahu in Hawaii, west of Honolulu. Much of the Harbor is a United States Navy deep-water naval base. This attack brought the Unites States into World War II, it took place at the Pearl Harbor in Hawaii a December 7th of 1941.
This was a surprise attack of which the U.S. Navy in Pearl Harbor was not prepared for, causing devastating lass and damage to the naval fleet. The attack started with the launching of 183 planes composed mainly of dive bombers, horizontal bombers and fighters. This first attack started at 7:53 AM and the second at 8:55 AM with 180 planes of the Japanese fleet. By 1:00 PM the carriers who launched the planes were already gone back to Japan. 9 of the American fleet ships were sunk and 21 were severely damaged. About 3 hours later, the Japanese made an attack on American facilities in the Philippines.
This “war” started because the Japanese didn’t want the involvement of the American army in the war he was preparing in launching in Southeast Asia against Great Britain, the Netherlands and the United States. What made the U.S. declare war to the Japanese were because of the “surprise” nature it and the whole attack thing, and this was because the U.S. also changed opinion of the isolationist it was going to have in the previous wars in it’s direct participation.
Behind them, they left 2,403 dead and 1,282 wounded; 188 destroyed planes, and a damaged Pacific Fleet that included 8 damaged battleships. While the Japanese damages were minimum.
The Role that technology takes place here is really important because without the advanced ships they had in those times and the well prepared they were this attack would have been a very different story, maybe the Americans wouldn’t be able to defend themselves and maybe they could even have destroyed Pearl Harbor. In the other hand, if they had had the adequate technology in machines and in the naval base, they could have prevented this attack or they could even have been prepared with the necessary equipment to attack back.

Martha’s theme it’s one of the most famous and popular attacks the United States had ever have. I think it’s almost impossible for someone not to know anything about it. After reading the description of the attack, I automatically remembered the nuclear bomb. Sincerely, I don’t feel sorry for the event. I think that the U.S. has earned it in some way. Americans have always felt superior n such way that they have to be involved in every international concern; I think this is annoying for many countries.
ReplyDeleteStill, I feel that is not fair for many people died in Pearl Harbor, tearing apart many families and basically altering Americans lifestyle. By the way, I liked how the story was narrated in this post.
This Pearl Harbor attack is very popular, that there even is a movie about it :).. I think that this attack from the Japanese was worthless, becuase if they didn't want the U.S. within the battle, they could have arranged it with a pact, a treaty, or something like that, but with not that the necessity of violence. Besides, this attack made WWII worst than it was, because as we know the U.S. is the most powerful nation in the world, so I think that no one would like to have it as an enemy, because you may suffer serious consequences; but at the same time I think this was a good thing because someone should put a stop to the northamericans.
ReplyDeletewell the attack on pearl harbor was sad but has the truth been told correctly?
ReplyDeletethe bombing was indeed a counterattack that was a devistating blow but was caused by the sinking of a japaneese submarine which was probably a spy but even then to sink a submarine was bad because it was in international waters.
I think this theme is very interesting and something that many people talked and will continue for much time. I think there was no need for Japan to make this, but as it always happen, they always think the best way is "war". And i liked the way martha published this article because it narrates very good all the event, and I liked the way she emphasizes at the end with how tecnology was involved.
